A Death Most Beautiful.

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. Galatians 2:20a

I’m not a fan of stories that include death, particularly that of a character I’ve cheered on through their journey of transformation only to find them staring down the wrong end of a Remington, beaten to a pulp in the boxing ring, or careening off a cliff.

That just makes me mad, leaves me unsatisfied. I want the happily ever after and crave it like chocolate.

But death was a beautiful thing for Enoch. He walked with God; then he was no more because God took him away (Genesis 5:24).

And death was a beautiful thing for Stephen, one of the early Christ-followers. He boldly proclaimed to the Sanhedrin that they’d unjustly betrayed and murdered Jesus Christ, the long-awaited Righteous One. Furious, they rushed at Stephen, dragged him out of the city and stoned him. But just before Stephen died he prayed, ‘Lord Jesus, receive my spirit’. And with that, he fell asleep (Acts 7:52, 57, 59).

Zzzz. A death most beautiful.

A Death Most Beautiful.-5-picmonkeyDeath was even a beautiful thing for Jesus Christ Who, while struggling to snatch oxygen into His suffocating lungs, prayed for His enemies (let that sink in), that God would forgive their ignorance. In obedience to God, He then bowed His head and gave up His Spirit (John 19:30). Because He knew that…

Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin.

Hebrews 9:22

Mmm. A death most beautiful.

Not to mention the beautiful deaths of those who’ve been martyred for their refusal to denounce Christ as Lord (http://www.persecution.com).

Death is a beautiful thing in a story when the hunky hero snuffs out the life of a bad guy, then gets the swooning girl and assures that justice wins in the end.

Which brings me back to King Jesus.

That hunky Hero of all humankind crushed the bad guy enemy with His weapon of death and wielded the element of surprise against this foe when He didn’t stay dead. With an almighty one-two punch, Jesus’ ReSuRrEcTiOn ultimately won the heart of His bride, the Church.

The way I see it, being crucified with Christ makes me a non-zombie, walking dead woman A Death Most Beautiful-8-picmonkeywho has the freedom to obey and the assurance of eternal life.

I must say, death is at its best when my law breaker-self finds its end and my life looks like it.

For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, He cannot die again. The death He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life He lives, He lives to God.  Romans 6:9a-10

A happily ever after kinda death. Just once. And most beautiful!
