No Longer Useful.

Blessed are those whose ways are blameless,
who walk according to the law of the Lord.

Psalm 119:1

A person of interest – a phrase used in law enforcement referring to one who is a suspect in a crime. Searching for truth in questioning separates those who might be truly guilty from those who are justly innocent.

If the so-called a person of interest is questioned and then found to be without guilt, he/she becomes no longer useful to the case.

This law enforcement jargon makes me think of Satan.

As the enemy does what he does – patrolling the earth, watching everything that’s going on (Job 1:7 NLT), prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour (I Peter 5:8) – he’s also searching for a person of interest.

Me.

You.

Anyone.

Satan searches high and low for persons of interest, those useful to his case. Be warned: he sides with the wrong side of the law.

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil.

He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

I Peter 5:8

He disguises himself as a sheep in wolf’s clothing. For him, every day is HaLlOwEeN. He owns a collection of costumes that would put Hollywood to shame.

I need to be reminded of this disturbing truth often. Daily. Hour by hour. Minute by minute. And even now as he attempts to plant lies in my brain and dig up seeds of Truth sown there.

My goal is to become no longer useful to him.

My soul is consumed with longing
for your laws at all times…

I will walk about in freedom,
for I have sought out your precepts. Psalm 119:20, 45

~When he finds me armed with truth, unwilling to believe I’m anything less than fearfully and wonderfully made, I’m no longer useful to his case.

~When he finds me serving cheerfully, he rolls his eyes because I’m no longer useful to his case.

~When he finds me praying, he recoils in fear and I’m no longer useful to his case.

~When he finds me believing God to do the impossible, I’m no longer useful to his case.

~When he hears me speaking kindly or sharing gifts of time or resources, his fury rages and I’m no longer useful to his case.

Drat, that Mary. She’s no longer useful.

Until the next time.

Stay alert! I never want him to consider me a person of interest, a vulnerable and uninformed subject useful to his godless, destructive agenda. ‘Cause it’ll for sure toss me into a hellish mental prison.

And that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will. II Timothy 2:26

Then there’s Jesus.

I’m of great interest to Him and way beyond useful. Why? Because He bought me with a price (I Corinthians 6:20), giving His life so that I might experience eternity with Him (John 3:16, Romans 5:8).

When God searches my heart I’d like Him to find me running about in freedom rather than held captive by Satan, a guilty soul useful to his agenda.

What are you to Satan, a person of interest or no longer useful?

Thanks for reading. I pray you will always be…no longer useful to the enemy because you are so invaluable to the Lord.

  2. I SO needed to hear/see this again. I always prefer not to think about Satan, but we must! But not too much. Oh to be so indwelt with the Spirit that Satan doesn’t even bother to try…
    Thanks for sharing this, Mary.

I do want to be more of a frustration to Satan as he is to me, such that he will repeatedly slink away. It comforts me to know his assured end is destruction.
