The One in White.

Then the heavens opened and there before me was a white horse whose Rider is called Faithful and True…The armies of heaven were following Him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.

Revelation 19:11, 14

Each spring our church youth group hosts what is called the Tacky Prom. It’s a fun-filled event for high schoolers with music, food, and dancing. All who attend are challenged to wear the most tacky outfit they can come up with. Wild, mis-matched colors, patterns, and fabrics, outdated shoes, wigs… You name it.

Soooo…my youngest daughter rummaged through my closet in search of something tacky.

Go figure.

Among the choices she considered was one of the bridesmaid’s dresses from my wedding (March, 1990) that’d been worn by one of my sisters.

Unfortunately, the lovely handmade fuchsia pink dress with thick shoulder pads, gathered waist, and rosettes stitched along the lower back didn’t make the cut. As much as I loved the dress at the time, I had to admit…what could possibly be more tacky?

Alas, duly trumped by Good Will, the dress was abandoned in favor of a flashy, royal blue, sequin-studded little number.

In the aftermath of my daughter trying on piles of clothing options around the house, my bridesmaid’s dress was left lying across the kitchen table. Passing by it, my husband paused for a glance. What’s this?”

“A bridesmaid’s dress,” I answered.

Surely he remembered the dress from our wedding.

“You wore that?”

Detecting a hint of disdain in his voice, I shot him a look.

“No. I was the one in white.”

We chuckled at the misunderstanding.

The one in white. For a while afterward, the phrase resonated with me and brought Revelation 19:11* to mind.

The One on a white horse…

Then the heavens opened and there before me was a white horse whose Rider is called Faithful and True. (vs 11)

No matter how many times I read this verse, the image ripples a thrill through me as I consider my Hero of heroes described here. Some day my Prince will come!

Oh, and don’t miss His entourage:

The armies of heaven were following Him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. (vs 14)

Makes me swoon to imagine my Hero on a white horse, His mighty army dressed in white, advancing on white horses, and moving in to destroy the enemy of my soul.

The horizon right now might not look all that cheery and victorious, but the promise of victory is sure and certain.

Wherever life takes you today be encouraged in this truth: The Rider on a white horse is coming and is, indeed, Faithful and True.

What a beautiful thought that the Lover of our souls will be mounted on a white horse. Hollywood could never beat that scene!

I have always loved that image. Takes my breath away. Just wished I wasn’t so frightened of being around horses 🙁 P.S. I have Carol’s dress. She was quite happy to part with it when I asked
